3M Light & Trim
Restoration
Rejuvenate and protect faded exterior plastics, trims, and lighting fixtures to a vibrant, showroom-new appearance.
What is 3M Restoration?
3M Light & Trim Restoration (such as the 3M™ Black Plastic Restorer) is a specialized detailing service used to rejuvenate and protect faded exterior plastics, trims, and rubber.
Why Use It:Over time, constant sun (UV) exposure, weather, and wash chemicals cause unpainted exterior plastics to oxidize, turning them gray and chalky. This product penetrates deep into the pores of the material to restore the original rich, deep black or dark color instead of just putting an oily shine on top.
Key Benefits

• Headlight Restoration
Restores cloudy, yellowed, or oxidized headlights back to a clear, bright finish. Improves night driving visibility, safety, and overall vehicle appearance while extending the life of your headlights without costly replacements.
Restore Your Headlights Without Replacing Them
Rather than using ineffective solvents — or spending big on new headlight lenses — you can choose our 3M™ Headlight Lens Restoration Kits. A complete system of light abrasives, polishes and protectants removes scratches, dirt and oxidization that can appear on your lenses, lowering your vehicle's value and reducing safe driving visibility. You can choose a kit that lets you restore headlight lenses without tools, or use the full kit with a range of abrasive discs for sanding and finishing.
How Does it Work?
First, apply high-performance masking tape to the painted surfaces around the lens. Use our progressive system of Trizact™ abrasive discs to remove yellowing, scratches, dirt, and haze. A choice of restoration kits features our 3M™ Scratch Remover or 3M™ Rubbing Compound to achieve maximum shine and clarity. Finish by applying a light coating of 3M™ Synthetic Wax Protectant with a soft cloth.
About Our Trizact™ Abrasives
The abrasive in our Trizact™ discs is so fine that you can sand across plastic lenses without worrying about creating scratches. They feature microreplication — small 3-dimensional structures containing multiple layers of abrasive mineral. As they wear, fresh mineral is exposed to ensure faster cutting, longer life, and precise finish control.
Why Do You Need It?
Dim bulb output and hazy lenses limit visibility, contributing to 2.8 million accidents and 23,000 fatal crashes each year. Safe driving visibility is essential. Correcting hazy lenses guards you and your passengers from severe risks.
• Taillight Restoration
Revives faded or dull taillights by removing oxidation and surface haze, bringing back their original clarity and vibrant look. Enhances both safety and rear-end aesthetics of your vehicle.
Using a 3M restoration kit fixes oxidation, fading, and scratches. It removes the hazy, yellowed layer from the plastic, restoring a "like-new" look. Benefits include brighter brake and signal light visibility, enhanced vehicle aesthetics, and significant cost savings over replacing the lenses entirely.
Why You Should Restore Your Tail Lights
Plastic tail light covers are exposed to continuous sunlight, weather, and debris, causing the UV layer to break down. This causes oxidation (cloudy, yellowish tints), surface scratches that trap dirt, and faded light output that makes brake signals less obvious to trailing drivers.
Key Benefits
- Improved Safety & Signals
- Better Rear Aesthetics
- Increased Resale Value
- Cost-Effective & Durable

• Fog Light Restoration
Cleans and restores fog lights affected by dirt, haze, or oxidation. Improves light output performance and ensures better visibility during poor weather and night driving conditions.
3M Fog/Headlight Restoration uses specialized abrasive discs and polishes to strip away the oxidized, yellowed plastic layer on your lenses. This restores optical clarity—improving nighttime visibility by up to 200% and saving you the heavy expense of buying and installing brand-new lights.
Why You Need It
UV degradation leads to oxidation, micro-cracking which scatters light instead of projecting it forward, and diminished output (losing up to 40% brightness).
Core Benefits & How It Works
First, clean the lights and tape around the paint. Sand using a progression of 3M abrasive discs, then polish with a rubbing compound to buff scratches. Finish with a UV-blocking clear coat or protectant to seal the lens.
Trim Renovation Systems

3M Plastic Trim Restoration
Restores faded, grey, or weather-damaged exterior plastic trims back to a rich, deep factory finish. Protects against UV rays and future fading while significantly improving overall vehicle appearance.
3M Plastic Trim Restoration is a specialized, durable coating designed to reverse oxidation and environmental damage on unpainted exterior plastic surfaces. It revives faded, dull, or grey cladding, bumpers, and trim, giving them a rich, factory-fresh black appearance. The restorer chemically bonds to the pores of the plastic to revitalize its natural pigment rather than just temporarily greasing the surface.
Core Benefits:
- Restores OEM Appearance
- Long-Lasting UV Protection
- Weather & Wash Resistant
- Boosts Resale Value

Exterior Black Trim Renewal
Revives aged and faded black trim pieces on bumpers, windows, and body accents. Brings back deep color richness and adds protective coating to maintain a fresh appearance longer.
Exterior unpainted plastic is exposed to the elements constantly. Over time, UV rays break down the top layer of the plastic, causing the material to dry out and oxidize. Environmental contaminants and harsh car wash soaps strip away the essential protective oils, turning a once-rich black trim into a dull, chalky gray.
Key Benefits:
- Like-New Color Richness
- Protective UV Barrier
- Wash & Weather Resistant
- Showroom Shine Up To 6 Months
