3M AUTOMOTIVE
WINDOW FILM
3M Automotive window films help reduce heat and UV rays, delivering unmatched climate control and privacy.
Is It Necessary to Apply
Car Window Tinting Film?
In intense, tropical climates, applying heat-insulating film is universally considered an essential automotive accessory. However, many still question the true efficacy of these window films.
3M Automotive Window Films are meticulously researched, developed, and manufactured using cutting-edge nanotechnology. They significantly reduce the volume of heat transmitted through the glass—a fact proven by technical specifications and easily verified through real-world comfort.
- Heat Insulation: Blocks heat from entering, keeping the cabin temperature stable and eliminating discomfort.
- Infrared (IR) Rejection: High-quality 3M films block the invisible infrared rays responsible for the majority of the heat.
- Ultraviolet (UV) Rejection: Blocks 99% or more of harmful UV rays, protecting your skin and preserving the vehicle's interior.
- Glare Reduction: Intelligent light filtering drastically reduces blinding sunlight and harsh headlights from oncoming traffic.
- Fuel Efficiency: Minimizes the loss of cool air from inside the cabin, significantly reducing the load on the AC system.
- Glass Safety: Acts as a protective barrier, holding broken glass together and reducing risks in the event of an impact.

Meaning of 3M Tint Specifications
Technical specifications indicate the exact level of heat rejection and extended features of the film. These metrics are the foundation for evaluating and selecting the perfect premium window tint for your vehicle.
Total Solar Energy Rejected (TSER)
Indicates the film's total ability to reject solar heat transmitted through the glass. The higher the TSER, the cooler the cabin.
Infrared Rejection (IRR)
The percentage of heat-producing infrared rays that the film successfully blocks. Infrared rays are responsible for the feeling of heat on your skin.
Ultraviolet Rejected (UVR)
The percentage of harmful, fading, and skin-damaging ultraviolet rays rejected. Premium 3M films offer up to 99% UVR protection.
Visible Light Transmission (VLT) & Reflectance (VLR)
VLT dictates how dark the film is (transmission), while VLR indicates the mirror or reflective effect of the film's exterior surface.
Choosing Specs for Each Glass Position
Every window on your vehicle serves a distinct purpose and has unique visual and heat demands. Choose specifications tailored for safety and performance.
Front Windshield
As the primary entry point for sunlight and heat, the front windshield requires superior heat rejection. We recommend a TSER of at least 50% and an IRR of 80%+. Crucially, the Visible Light Transmission (VLT) must remain around 40–50% to ensure absolutely pristine visibility for the driver.
Front Side Windows
While heat rejection is vital here, the film must not be too dark so the driver can clearly use the side mirrors. An optimally balanced 3M film with a VLT of 20–40% and a total heat rejection exceeding 70% is the ideal choice.
Rear Side & Quarter
These positions lack strict visibility requirements, allowing you to select transmission levels based entirely on aesthetic preference and privacy. Films with low transmission (below 20% VLT) are an excellent choice here to maximize the total heat rejection.
Sunroof
Because the sunroof faces direct vertical exposure to intense sunlight, it tends to get incredibly hot. It is highly recommended to apply a 3M film with the absolute highest total heat rejection available.
